Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture Development of the Republic of Chad – H.E. Oumar Ibn Daoud

Rome - Director-General QU Dongyu and H.E. Oumar Ibn Daoud, Minister for Agriculture Development of the Republic of Chad, met on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.

The Minister started by congratulating the Director-General for his re-election and thanked him for the support provided during his first term, highlighting the technical support in strengthening institutional capacities and agrifood systems resilience, with an emphasis on youth, women and social cohesion. He also informed the Director-General of the negative impacts of the climate crisis, including unpredictable droughts and floods, on the agriculture sector.

Finally, the Minister noted that in addition to these stresses, the country is also dealing with large numbers of refugees that requires more inputs and support from Chad.

The Director-General thanked the Minister and reiterated his commitment to support Chad, especially in addressing the adverse effects of the floods, and noted that there is a need for an agile and comprehensive response. He commended Chad for the support it was extending to the refugees.

The two also agreed on key strategic priorities to support agrifood systems transformation, including through increased production and value addition.
