Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Minister for Emergency Management of Australia, Senator The Hon. Murray Watt
Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with Senator The Hon. Murray Watt, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Minister for Emergency Management of Australia, ahead of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.
The Director-General appraised Australia for its consistent support to FAO, and especially recalled one of the founding fathers of the Organization, Frank Lidgett McDougall, after whom the “McDougall Memorial Lecture” was established.
The Minister stated that Australia is keen to work with FAO on, among others, sustainable climate-resilient farming practices and livestock transformation. The two emphasized the importance of Australia’s continuous support to the Pacific small island countries, and also exchanged views on open trade.
