Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia – H.E. Ahmed Madobe Nunow

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with and His Excellency Ahmed Madobe Nunow, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, together with Mr Mustaf Ahmed Idow, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation of the South West State of Somalia.

The two discussed the ongoing support by FAO for the government’s Ninth National Development Plan through the FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF). The Minister highlighted the need for additional support to strengthen local capacity development, and assistance to returning small holder farmers.

The Director-General agreed, stressing the huge potential of Somalia. They also discussed how the FAO Hand-in-Hand (HiHi) and One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiatives are essential to generate targeted action and investment to spur agrifood systems transformation.
