Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of Madagascar – H.E. Harifidy Janset Alin Ramilison

Rome - Director-General QU Dongyu and His Excellency Harifidy Janset Alin Ramilison, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Madagascar, met on the margins of the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment taking place at FAO Headquarters from 24 to 26 July 2023.

The Minister congratulated the Director-General for his re-election for a second term and shared with him the Governments plans to achieve food sovereignty, and requested FAO’s support in this regard.  Specifically, he highlighted the need for capacity development to improve extension services.

The Director-General thanked the Minister and commended the Government for its leadership and plans to achieve agrifood systems transformation. He highlighted the FAO Farmer Field Schools programme and noted that this would be a key tool for capacity development. In addition the Director-General addressed the importance of a market oriented reform for the agriculture sector and highlighted the importance of the fisheries sector, mainly aquaculture, and how together they can be a key driver to achieve agrifood system transformation.
