Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel - H.E. Avi Dichter

Rome - Today the FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met at FAO headquarters in Rome with H.E. Avi Dichter, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel.

The pair discussed innovations needed to produce more food using less resources, to feed a growing world population, and the Minister shared the experience of Israel with sea water desalination plants for agricultural and household use. The Director-General called upon the Minister to share Israel’s experience and capabilities in this sector, the innovations to tackle the pressing challenges of water scarcity and boost water use efficiency, as well as the unique achievements in the utilization of its water resources more widely with FAO Members.

The Director-General thanked the Minister for the long-term support of Israel to FAO, and commended the Permanent Representative of Israel to FAO, Ms Yael Rubinstein, for her important work in chairing the FAO Programme Committee.
