Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture of Indonesia - H.E. Syahrul Yasin Limpo

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Minister for Agriculture of Indonesia, on the sidelines of the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation taking place at FAO Headquarters from 25 to 27 September.

The Director-General thanked the Minister for supporting the first Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation. He congratulated Indonesia for successfully holding the G20 2022 and praised the achievements that Indonesia has made in the past years. The Director-General expressed the willingness to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia and ASEAN countries on, among others, livestock, aquaculture, as well as localized technology for tropical agriculture.

The Minister showed strong willingness to strengthen cooperation with FAO, noting that FAO had the technical expertise to lead Indonesia and other ASEAN countries in working together to improve the situation of livestock in the region, and beyond. He expressed concerns of the challenges arising from the agriculture sector for the environment, and to the sector itself.

Minister Limpo further provided an overview of agriculture and livestock development in the country, highlighting that the rate of growth was stable. The Minister also called for joint work on Avian Influenza and Food and Mouth Disease, among others.

The pair discussed how to enhance collaboration through the FAO Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Platform, as well as how to strengthen South-South and Triangular Cooperation to support ASEAN countries, as well as cooperation with African countries.
