Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Education of the Republic of Zambia - The Honourable Douglas Syakalima

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and The Honourable Douglas Syakalima Minister for Education of the Republic of Zambia, met following the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment which took place at FAO Headquarters from 24 to 26 July 2023.

The Minister congratulated the Director-General on the excellent result of his re-election for a second term and informed him that the Government has prioritized agriculture as a key sector to drive economic diversification, improve livelihoods and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient agrifood system.  

The Director-General thanked the Minister and appreciated the work being carried out in partnership with FAO. He congratulated the Government for passing the Food and Nutrition Act of 2020, placing the coordination and oversight of food and nutrition under the Vice President’s Office.

The Director-General and the Minister went on to discuss the importance of infrastructural connectivity, and vocational and technical training to facilitate agrifood system transformation.
