Bilateral meeting with the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – The Honourable Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Honourable Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, at FAO headquarters in Rome, at the sidelines of the World Food Forum 2023 (WFF2023).

The Minister expressed his appreciation to FAO for the technical assistance provided by the Organization to Nigeria. He reiterated the strong commitment of President Tinubu to food security, highlighted in the declared a state of emergency of 13 July 2023 announcing a new institutional arrangement for coordinating the national food security response, where step 1 is “Enhance agriculture productivity”. The Minister also underlined the importance of the Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum for the country to achieve its food security.

The Director-General thanked the Minister for his participation at the WFF2023. He highlighted that stability, investment and enabling policies are key areas for Nigeria to focus on to achieve its food security objectives. He emphasized that Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum is a platform where countries take ownership of their investment plans and create the catalytic and transformative change required.
