Bilateral meeting with the President of Montenegro - H.E. Jakov Milatović

Dubai - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with the President of Montenegro, H.E. Jakov Milatović, at the sideline of the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) convened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Director-General Qu reiterated FAO’s commitment to scaling up its support to Montenegro and other countries in the region for the transformation of their agrifood systems.

Qu shed light on the three pillars of the World Food Forum, namely the Hand-in-Hand Investment forum, the Science and Innovation Forum, and the Global Youth Forum, as well as the Organization’s flagship initiatives including the Hand in Hand Initiative and the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiatives, among others, to help leverage the full potential of the agrifood sector in middle income countries such as Montenegro, and to enhance the comparable advantages of local products.

President Milatović expressed conveyed his deep appreciation for the support received from FAO and affirmed Montenegro's close collaboration with the Organization. He invited FAO to use its expertise to identify the prioritized collaboration areas in the upcoming five years.

The two leaders agreed that an area for strengthened support was Montenegro’s agritourism, including through the FAO’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS).
