Bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania – The Honorable Kassim Majaliwa

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with The Honorable Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, at FAO headquarters in Rome, at the sidelines of the World Food Forum 2023 (WFF2023).

The Prime Minister participated at the Grand Opening of the World Food Forum on 16 October 2023. The Honorable Kassim Majaliwa expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Director-General for the strong relationship between FAO and the United Republic of Tanzania. He informed the Director-General of the country’s agriculture transformation initiative and the increased budget allocations for its implementation under the Agricultural Transformation Master Plan, which is being prepared.  

The Director-General thanked Prime Minister for his participation at the WFF 2023 and strong support to the Organization. He congratulated the United Republic of Tanzania for the progress made under the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative together with the Government Task Force. He proceeded to share with the Prime Minister his views on how through increased support and better production, agrifood systems transformation can be enhanced (especially for crops and livestock subsectors).  

The two-exchanged views on the importance of enhancing production and productivity through digitalization and innovative science-based solutions.

The Prime Minister noted that agriculture is the priority source of food for humanity and heavily relies on water. He proceeded to underline that water availability and management are critical factors in agriculture productivity and food security.

The Director-General and the Prime Minister reiterated the longstanding and excellent partnership between the Organization and the United Republic of Tanzania, and looked forward to further strengthening collaboration going forward.
