28 August 2019, Yokohama - The sharing of Côte d’Ivoire’s experience in food security and agricultural development can benefit other developing nations, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu said in talks today with the country’s Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

“To achieve food security, countries must work on increasing productivity, build up value chain, and improve water efficiency,” the FAO chief said.

For his part, Coulibaly reaffirmed the Côte d’Ivoire Government’s commitment to collaborate with FAO to promote his country’s products at a global scale and to enhance exports of agricultural products.

During their meeting, Qu also highlighted the role of triangular cooperation and the need for countries to adopt the standards of the Codex Alimentarius, and stressed that development hinged on capacity-building, investment, market access and research and innovation.
