14 October 2019, Rome – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu today met a Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) delegation headed by Wang Xiaobing, Director-General of the ministry’s Information Center.

The Director-General thanked the MARA delegation for offering its technical support to the FAO Information Technology Division (CIO) for upgrading the FAO website. In relation to this, he expressed the hope that a road map would be developed as soon as possible, followed by a gradual push forward towards implementation.

Qu stressed that the main purpose for upgrading the FAO website is to provide better services to the agency’s Member States.

Last week, at the 6th FAO Digital Innovation Dialogue session, the MARA delegation presented China’s approaches and experiences in digital agriculture and e-commerce transformation for its rural communities.

In recent years, China has made great efforts to promote the integration of the internet, big data, and artificial intelligence with the development of agriculture and rural areas, vigorously developing digital agriculture, accelerating the development of e-commerce, and actively promoting information sharing in rural areas.
