Director-General and African Union Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture discuss stronger partnership

11 November 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, African Union Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, to explore ways to collaborate further on common objectives.

The African Union Commissioner congratulated the Director-General on his assignment at the helm of the Organization and expressed her best wishes for his tenure.

In their talks, the parties discussed the two Organizations’ long-standing and strong partnership developed over the years and exchanged views on common initiatives.

The FAO Director-General, for his part, noted FAO’s commitment to work with the African Union Commission and Member States to shape continental decisions that will contribute to the fight against hunger and malnutrition, and contribute to the agricultural development of the continent.

The African Union Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture commended the Organization’s new Hand-in-Hand initiative presented by the Director-General and committed to supporting FAO in the implementation of the initiative.
