Director-General and Azerbaijan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs stress the importance of agricultural innovation

16 September 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the Organization and Azerbaijan.

In Azerbaijan, around half of the population live in rural areas. During the meeting, the pair agreed on establishing closer ties by exploring ways to upgrade the country’s agricultural value chains through technology.

The Director-General also presented his new Hand in Hand initiative as an excellent opportunity for Azerbaijan to support countries.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs invited the Director-General to attend the XVIII Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (25-26 October 2019) in Baku, Azerbaijan. Throughout its history, the Movement has played an important role in strengthening international peace and security, within the framework of its permanent quest for establishing a more peaceful and prosperous world.
