Director-General and Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture of Germany highlight the importance of a stronger collaboration between Germany and FAO

30 September 2019, Berlin/Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu had a phone call this morning with H.E. Julia Klöckner, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture of Germany, to discuss ways to further strengthen the collaboration between Germany and the Organization.

The Federal Minister welcomed the important decisions already taken by the new Director-General to give FAO more visibility in the UN system and strengthen the cohesion between its members.

The Director-General for his part appreciates the support from Germany and its Ambassador H.E. Ulrich Seidenberger.

The Director-General also outlined Germany as one of the largest resource partners for assessed and voluntary contributions, and its consistent support to FAO’s global mandate on hunger and poverty eradication.

The Minister underlined the importance of FAO as a central knowledge organization and its key role in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

Her Excellency Julia Klöckner expressed her appreciation for the new Hand-in-Hand initiative, which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions, as an excellent opportunity for Germany to support countries in need.
