Director-General and Pakistan Minister of State for Climate Change discuss agriculture development

7 November 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Zartaj Gul, Minister of State for Climate Change of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, to explore ways to work more closely together on climate-resilient agriculture and poverty reduction-related issues.

During the meeting, the Director-General commended the active cooperation with Pakistan, stressing the importance of the programmes implemented in the country.

The Minister of State for Climate Change expressed appreciation for FAO’s strong support and welcomed the Director-General’s vision on agriculture development, which consists in promoting labor-intense agro-food processing industry and introducing digital farming.

In their talks, the parties discussed the importance of technology transfer, training and market access and agreed on the need to collaborate further on the issues of poverty reduction, hunger and youth unemployment in rural areas.

The Director-General, confirmed the Organization’s support to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, to help the country developing its sustainable agriculture.
