Director-General and the Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands of Venezuela discuss ways of collaboration

15 October 2019, Rome – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and H.E. Wilmar Alfredo Castro Soltedo, Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands of Venezuela, met today on the margins of the 46th Session of the Committee on World Food Security.

The Minister presented the different measures that the Government of Venezuela is putting in place to guarantee the food security of the population. He noted that 2/3 of the food consumed in the country is now produced internally and outlined the country’s work on the development of family farming, livestock, especially small ruminants, and leguminous seeds.

The FAO Director-General highlighted Venezuela’s great soils for agriculture and mentioned FAO’s availability to provide technical assistance in support to the country’s efforts to provide food security.
