Director-General discusses stronger collaboration with INBAR counterpart

6 December 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Ali Said Mchumo, Director-General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR), at the Organization’s headquarters in Rome, on the sidelines of the 163rd Session of the FAO Council.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the FAO Director-General to discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two Organizations, in the area of environmental friendly forestry.

The parties agreed to reaffirm their cooperation and to work more closely together on rural development, providing rural youth, women and disabled people with job opportunities.

INBAR Director-General expressed full support to the Organization’s new Hand-in-Hand initiative, which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions including Small Island Developing States, Least Developed and Landlocked Countries. The pair also explored ways to develop training programmes on bamboo and rattan products processing.
