Director-General meets Brazil's Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply

17 January 2020, Berlin - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met Brazil's Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply Tereza Cristina at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture.

The Director-General spoke about FAO's Hand-in-Hand Initiative following the Minister expressing interest in and wanting to know more about it. Announced in September 2019, the Initiative aims to create "matchmaking" between donors and recipients to support tailor-made, targeted efforts to assist vulnerable people in the Developing Countries as well as those affected by food crises.

Qu also referred to FAO's newly established Women and Youth Committees.

He thanked the Minister for her country's support for FAO's work, and highlighted the need for FAO and Brazil to work together to deliver tangible solutions to all member countries.

The Minister put forward solutions such the use of science to increase food production, achieve sustainability and protect the environment.
