Director-General meets with CEO of World Business Council on Sustainable Development

11 December 2019, Madrid - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with Peter Bakker, CEO of the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, to discuss points of common interest.

Many of FAO’s priorities are important to WBCSD members, who are keen to increase their ambition, Bakker said.

The Director-General emphasized FAO’s critical role in advising how to transform food systems around the world.
Big-picture issues such as climate change underscore the need to engage both food producers and consumers, which will require participation of the private sectors, Qu said.

Food diversity is necessary not only to address food security and nutrition but also provide solution to tackle climate change, he said.

The WBCSD is a CEO-led organization of over 200 international companies, including numerous large firms in the food, agriculture, energy, technology and manufacturing sectors.
