Director-General meets with UN Deputy Secretary-General, briefs her on Hand-in-Hand Initiative

14 November 2019, New York - Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met here today. 
 
The Director-General thanked her for her support for FAO and the Rome-based UN agencies focused on food and agriculture, as well as briefed her on how he has dedicated his first 100 days in office to making the Food and Agriculture Organization "transparent, open and inclusive".
 
She welcomed the Director-General’s creation of The Committees on Women and Youth at FAO and highlighted the importance of paying attention to people with disabilities.
 
He also briefed the Deputy Secretary-General on the Hand-in-Hand Initiative, which has received strong support from FAO's Member States as well as the private sector, academia and non-profit foundations. 
Qu also offered assurance that FAO will fully support ongoing reforms of the UN Development system.
