FAO Director-General and Minister for Fish Wealth of Yemen to work closer together to improve the livelihoods of fishermen

30 September 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and H.E. Fahd Saleem Kafayen Rafoon, Minister for Fish Wealth of Yemen today agreed to work more closely together to improve the livelihoods of fishermen.

The Minister for Fish Wealth congratulated the Director-General on his election and thanked FAO for the support, especially in the fisheries sector in Yemen.

The parties outlined the importance of the fisheries sector in the country and the FAO Director-General for his part noted the great significance of marking and fish consumption, drawing the attention of H.E. Fahd Saleem Kafayen Rafoon on a few healthy recipes, which promote the use of all parts of the fish.

The Minister for Fish Wealth mentioned the UN agency’s new Hand-In-Hand Initiative, which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions, as a great opportunity for Yemen.
