FAO Director-General and Russian Minister of Agriculture discuss future areas of cooperation

9 October 2019, Moscow – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu today met with Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the 21st Russian Agroindustrial Exhibition “Golden Autumn”.

They discussed numerous areas of common interest, including food security and safety, prevention and control of animal diseases, as well as water and soil management. They also agreed on the importance of knowledge sharing and capacity building through South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

The Director-General underscored Russia’s enormous expertise in many of the Organization’s technical areas, and expressed his gratitude for the longstanding support of the country to FAO.

The FAO Director-General also presented the Organization’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative, for which Patrushev expressed full interest and support as a focused way of helping other countries meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
