FAO Director-General and Vice President of the French Parliament discuss rural development

25 November 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Marc Le Fur, Vice President of the French Parliament, to explore ways to work more closely together on climate and rural development-related issues.

The Director-General praised the Vice President of the French Parliament for his country’s continued assistance to rebuild and create stability in rural areas, addressing food insecurity and poverty and combat climate change and desertification.
They both agreed on the need to establish a regional approach and stressed the importance of rural development to provide stability, hope and a better future to rural youth.

The FAO Director-General presented the Organization’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative, which was welcomed by Mr. Le Fur as a powerful matchmaking initiative to share knowledge.
