FAO Director-General meets with head of China’s State Oceanic Administration

22 November 2019, Beijing - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met with Wang Hong, the Head of the State Oceanic Administration of China’s Ministry of Natural Resources, during his visit to the Chinese capital.

The Head led a tour of the reorganized ministry and highlighted important areas of work related to those of FAO, particularly in the fields of Nature Reserves, ecological restoration, arable land, forests, wetlands and the ocean.

The Director General, expressing appreciation for the Ministry’s strong support, noted several mandates shared with FAO. “There are a wide range of fields that we can cooperate in,” he said. “Such as off-shore ecosystems and marine diversity.”

He expressed optimism about further exploration of cooperation opportunities to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG14, which calls for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Wang and Qu engaged in an in-depth exchange of opinions on areas of potential cooperation, and on the prospect of co-organizing major events.
