29 August 2019, Yokohama – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and his International Labour Organization counterpart, Guy Ryder, today said that the two UN agencies will seek to find ways to increase joint efforts to support small-scale farmers and expand projects to support poor people in rural areas.

During their meeting on the sidelines of TICAD7, Qu hailed ILO’s renewed commitment to boost rural economy and confirmed that the two UN organizations will keep working closely to bring their respective expertise to boost pro-poor initiatives.

“FAO and ILO’s actions will not only focus on agriculture, but also on food and nutrition, making sure to integrate women, youth and empowerment in every project design,” he said.
