27/09/2019

27 September 2019, New York – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Yannick Glemarec Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) today agreed to work more closely together to transform agro-food systems so that they can become more productive in a sustainable way.

The parties met on the sidelines of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly for talks that focused on the need for a paradigm shift toward low emissions-development including sustainable land management and marine resource management.

Glemarec described FAO, which is one of the GCF main implementors, as a critical partner.

The FAO Director-General for his part noted how FAO and the GCF can build a more comprehensive collaboration to achieve tangible results.

Qu also outlined the UN agency’s new Hand-In-Hand Initiative which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions including small island developing states, least developed and landlocked countries.
