FAO and the Republic of Korea discuss joint efforts related to fisheries and aquaculture

26 October 2019, Rome – In talks today FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Seong-Hyeok Moon, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea, explored ways to further collaborate, especially in the fisheries sector.

During the meeting, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries expressed support to the Organization’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative, which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions, as well as his strong willingness to increase Korea’s role in broadening the scope of the Official Development Assistance Programme (ODA).

The parties agreed on the need to further collaborate on issues related to the fisheries and aquaculture sector, by introducing Korea’s great experience, experts and technology in aquaculture. They shared views and ideas to work more closely together on environmental-friendly aquaculture.

The FAO Director-General and the Korean Minister of Oceans and Fisheries also discussed the issue of World Fisheries University Pilot Programme.
