IAEA and FAO agree to further strengthen strategic partnership

11 December 2019, Madrid – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the sidelines of the COP25 Climate Summit.

The talks focused on the unique and strategic collaboration between the two Organizations. The FAO and IAEA principals expressed great satisfaction for the achievements of the FAO-IAEA Joint Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, and they agreed to start a new era of collaboration to better support the Member countries.

The parties stressed the importance of FAO’s new Hand-in-Hand initiative, which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in vulnerable regions, including Small Island Developing States, Least Developed and Landlocked Countries, as an opportunity to work more closely together on poverty-related issues.
