Implementing the Audit Committee’s recommendations to ensure improved performance at FAO

24 February 2020, Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today underscored the important work carried out by FAO’s Audit Committee, which he said is contributing to ensure the sound operation of the UN agency.

The Director-General made the remarks in a meeting with the Audit Committee’s Chairperson, Verasak Liengsririwat, and the other Members, Anjana Das, Enery Quinones, Gianfranco Cariola and Fayezul Choudhury. Audit Committee Secretary Beth Crawford and Assistant Secretary, Sylvia De Benedetti, were also in attendance.

Qu thanked the Audit Committee Members for their efforts and expressed FAO’s readiness to work with the Committee to ensure that its recommendations are implemented for improved performance at FAO.

The Audit Committee consists of five members external to FAO and serves as an expert advisory panel to assist the Director-General and the Finance Committee on the internal control arrangements, risk management processes, financial reporting and internal audit, investigation and ethics functions of the Organization. The Committee also operates in an advisory capacity to the Inspector General, and the Ethics Officer.
