Havana – On the sidelines of the G77+China Summit in Havana, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

President Días-Canel noted that two themes prevailed in the interventions during the Summit: the impacts of climate change and the need to reform the current international financial order. He also stressed that promoting global food security is a central element for a fairer international scenario, highlighting the crucial role played by FAO in this regard.

He acknowledged the importance of FAO's work in Cuba in the design and implementation of programmes, projects and public policies, as well as in the mobilization of international financial resources.

The FAO Director-General stressed that access to food is a human right and highlighted FAO’s efforts to promote science, innovation and technological development at a regional and global level. Qu conveyed his satisfaction with the visit to Vista Hermosa Farm, which he considered a great example for Cuba to share nationally and globally on how to improve food security and nutrition.
