20 September 2019, Washington DC – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Luis Alberto Moreno met today to discuss closer cooperation between their two organizations.

They agreed that FAO and the IDB will work together focusing on the regions of the Caribbean and Central America for joint projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and generating more income for local farmers.

Moreno expressed interest in FAO’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions including least developed and landlocked countries, as well as small island states.
