President of of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences expresses full support to Hand-in-Hand initiative

29 October 2019, Rome – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Li Chenggui, President of of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the two organizations.
Li appreciated the Director-General for launching FAO’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative, to which he indicated his readiness to provide technological support on maize, wheat and other crops. Both parties stressed the importance of the initiative at international, governmental, civil society level, including academia.
The parties also agreed on the vital importance of digitalization and innovation for rural communities’ development and exchanged views on the best ways to help smallholder farmers.
