Read-out of the Director-General’s bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama

Tirana – Today the FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Director-General to Albania and thanked him for undertaking an engaging two-day programme that showcased Albania’s agriculture and innovations in agri-tourism linked with smallholder farmer production and rural development.

The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister for meeting with him to discuss the further strengthening of the cooperation between Albania and FAO, especially for agrifood systems transformation, rural development and agriculture statistics.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the transition Albania went through was challenging, but that the country is on the right track for the future. The Director-General emphasised that Albania has a rich biodiversity and agricultural tradition, as well as great potential for agricultural development.

The Director-General mentioned the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31 that seeks to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.

The Director-General also referred to his visit to the Agricultural University of Tirana, where he had discussed closer collaboration with young Albanian scientists in the area of science and innovation.
