Read-out of the Director-General’s meeting with H.E. Abu-Bakr Omer Al-Bushra Ahmed, Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Sudan

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Abu-Bakr Omer Al-Bushra Ahmed, Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Sudan.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for FAO’s continued support to Sudan, specifically the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as smallholder farmers that have improved food and nutrition security in the country. The Minister emphasized the high potential of the agricultural sector, and highlighted the main challenges facing it including heavy rains and floods.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of supporting the agrifood system in Sudan to face the challenges resulting from climate change and other crises. He referred to FAO’s country portfolio in Sudan within which crosscutting interventions included emergency response, resilience building and climate change adaptation, value chain development and institutional capacity building for agrifood systems transformation.
