Read-out of the Director-General’s meeting with H.E. Hussein Al-Qatrani, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Agriculture of Libya

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Hussein Al-Qatrani, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Agriculture of Libya.

The Director-General welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister to FAO and confirmed FAO’s continued support to the transformation of agrifood systems in Libya.

The Deputy Prime Minister provided an overview of the Government efforts to develop the agrifood system in Libya, referring to the establishment of a National Committee for Food Security. He also highlighted the main comparative advantages of the Libyan agriculture and fisheries sectors, and looked forward to FAO and Libya continuing to work together to improve fisheries management and aquaculture in the Mediterranean.

The Director-General and the Deputy Prime Minister agreed to consolidate FAO’s programme in Libya focusing on water management, the fisheries and aquaculture sector, as well as other agriculture commodities with high production potential, in cooperation with International Financing Institutions.
