Read-out of the Director-General’s meeting with Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, meeting, Ahmed Madoobe Nuunow

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a meeting, with H.E. Ahmed Madoobe Nuunow, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Minister conveyed his deep appreciation for the cooperation and partnership of his country with the Organization and the support provided by the local team. He thanked the Director-General for the opportunity to meet and updated him on the progress made to ensure the resilience of their agrifood systems. He welcomed the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative that will help the country better formalize its vision and define the agrifood system transformation. The Minister also reported on results achieved with regards to capacity building and knowledge sharing.   

The Director-General conveyed his satisfaction with the progress being made in the country and highlighted that the FAO Somalia programme is one of FAO’s largest, and that the Organization is committed to a continued strong cooperation.

The Director-General shared with the Minister that more support can be provided to the fisheries sector given Somalia’s coastal lines, and that through innovation and capacity development the sector can be strengthened. He further reiterated the importance of ensuring that response needs are linked to capacity development.
