Read-out of the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu’s meeting with Michel Aoun President of the Republic of Lebanon

Rome - FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu today met in Rome General Michel Aoun, President of the Republic of Lebanon.

The FAO Director-General highlighted Lebanon’s importance as a partner to FAO. He emphasized FAO's continued commitment to supporting Lebanon's agrifood sector in light of the increasing challenges facing international food security.

President Aoun noted his appreciation for FAO's role in supporting the agrifood system in Lebanon, building on its comparative advantages, which can increase local production of strategic economic commodities such as wheat and consequently support economic growth and achieve better food security in the country.

President Aoun and Director-General Qu discussed means for increasing the resilience of supply chains in the country to external shocks in cooperation with international financial institutions.

Both sides agreed to continue the discussion at a technical level to support the priorities of the Lebanese government and help achieve better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind in line with FAO's Strategic Framework 2022-2031.

Under the FAO Country Programming Framework, 31 projects are being implemented in Lebanon for a total value of $51.5 million. FAO and Lebanon are in discussing ways of cooperation under FAO's One Country One Priority Product initiative.
