Read-out of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with Houmed M’Saidie, Minister of Agriculture of the Union of the Comoros

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met Houmed M’Saidie, Minister of Agriculture of the Union of the Comoros, at the sidelines of the 35th Session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries in Rome (5 – 9 September 2022).

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the support and long-standing partnership with FAO, and shared his concerns regarding the impacts and vulnerability of his country and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in addressing the adversities of the climate crisis. He underlined the need for resources and capacity development as priorities to make his country more resilient.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister and congratulated him on the work being done in the agricultural sectors. The Director-General also shared with the Minister his views on agrifood system transformation through technical assistance, and how FAO can continue to support Comoros.

The two also discussed the Hand in Hand initiative and the upcoming World Food Forum (17-21 October 2022), which will include two new events: the Hand-in-Hand Initiative’s first-ever Investment Forum, and the Science and Innovation Forum. The two agreed to explore further how best to cooperate in this regard.
