Read-out of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with Paul-Valentin Ngobo, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Republic of the Congo (2022)

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met with Paul-Valentin Ngobo, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Republic of the Congo.

The Director-General and the Minister met at the sidelines of the World Food Forum being held at the FAO’s headquarters in Rome (17-21 October 20022). The Minister updated the Director-General on the progress made since their last meeting in June on the Agricultural Strategy under the National Development Plan 2022-2026 aimed at increasing production and youth engagement in the agriculture sector. 

The two discussed ways in which the country could achieve agrifood system transformation. The Director-General underlined the importance of Codex Alimentarius to establish appropriate food standards, promotion of agriculture inputs and accessibility to achieve this goal.

The Minister appreciated the Director-General’s guidance and also noted that FAO’s support for agrifood system transformation is key as the country plans to increase its production capacity.
