Read-out of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister for Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Republic of Indonesia

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister for Marine Affairs and Fisheries to discuss ongoing partnership between FAO and the Republic of Indonesia. 

The Director-General welcomed the Minister on his visit to FAO during the 35th Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI 35), and expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s ongoing, active and effective support to FAO.  He also noted that he would be traveling to Indonesia at the end of September 2022 to participate in the Agriculture Ministers Meeting under the current G20 Presidency of the Republic of Indonesia.

For his part, the Minister indicated that Indonesia is looking to sustainably expand its aquaculture sector, and develop innovative solutions to support this endeavor.

Accordingly, the Director-General emphasized that FAO’s Hand-In-Hand Geospatial Platform could support Indonesia in its efforts to expand aquaculture, considering the geographic diversity of the country and the many possibilities to develop aquaculture around multiple species.

Additionally, the Director-General highlighted that Indonesia could play a key role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation and in other areas of multilateral collaboration, particularly in the area of aquaculture, in order to increase its technical support to countries most in need.
