Read-out of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, on the sidelines of the World Food Forum (WFF), which is being held at FAO headquarters.

The Minister praised FAO for organizing the second edition of the World Food Forum, which this year includes a segment dedicated to the Hand-in-Hand Initiative. He emphasized that the Hand-in-Hand Initiative is an excellent platform to help developing countries tackle rural poverty and transform their agrifood systems. 

The Minister thanked FAO for the continued support and noted that Nicaragua is also implementing measures to make its agriculture sectors more resilient to the impacts of climate change, particularly in some municipalities located in the Central America dry corridor. 

The Director-General also highlighted the potential of the Hand-in-Hand Initiative not only to bring together donors and beneficiaries but also to provide guidance on the best areas for development.
