Read-out of the bilateral meeting between FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and H.E. Salem Abdullah Issa Al-Soqtari Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries

28 July 2021, Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu met with H.E. Salem Abdullah Issa Al-Soqtari the Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries of Yemen. 

The Director-General confirmed FAO's commitment to supporting the people of Yemen to resume and increase nutritious food production and generate income in the context of the Hand in Hand initiative and sustainable agri-food systems transformation.  Yemen is a Hand-in-Hand (HiH) priority country, and FAO is supporting the Government in developing an integrated policy and investment framework for SDG1 and SDG2.

H.E Minister Al-Soqtari appreciated FAO’s support, reconfirming the Government's commitment to working with FAO to provide support to the population.

The Director-General and H.E the Minister emphasized the importance of working through long-term approaches, alongside the response to immediate needs of the Yemeni population.
