Read-out of the bilateral meeting between FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and the Vice-President of Uruguay, Beatriz Argimón

26 July 2021, Rome - FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and the Vice-President of Uruguay, Beatriz Argimón, met today and acknowledged the excellent relations between the Organization and Uruguay.

The Vice-President thanked FAO for the technical support provided, in particular with regarding to the implementation of three key initiatives: (i) first census to be undertaken of rural women in Uruguay, (ii) wood sustainability, and (iii) the establishment of a parliamentary group on the right to food.

The Director-General highlighted the importance of addressing the challenges related to rural women and youth for the future of food.

The Vice-President confirmed  Uruguay’s intention to further strengthen its collaboration with FAO, while the Director-General thanked the Vice-President for Uruguay’s support and engagement with the Organization.
