Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, today met with Jӧrg Kukies, Permanent Secretary and G 7-Sherpa of the German Federal Chancellor, at FAO headquarters.

The Director-General thanked the Permanent Secretary for Germany’s long-standing support to FAO.

The Director-General recalled the various meetings he had this year with the German Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir related to the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) and within the framework of the German G7 Presidency, as well as the support given by FAO since the start of the German Presidency in 2022.

The Permanent Secretary mentioned the recently launched Global Alliance for Food Security and thanked the Director-General for FAO’s technical expert support that lies at the heart of the Alliance, as well as for being part of the Steering Committee.

The Director-General mentioned the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) and thanked Germany for their longstanding support. They both agreed on the importance of timely, accurate global market information and agreed to work closely together on further strengthening AMIS.

The Director-General further underlined the need for more investments in the normative work of FAO, like for example the Codex Alimentarius, as well as the need for continuous support for the work of FAO on the International Platform for Digital Food and Agriculture. The International Platform for Digital Food and Agriculture was conceived in early 2019 when 74 Agriculture Ministers and high-level Representatives from international organizations called on FAO to develop the concept further on the occasion of GFFA in Berlin, supported by Germany.
