Read-out of the bilateral meeting between FAO Director-General, and Salim M. Al-Malik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO)

Rome--Today the FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a virtual meeting with the Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salim M. Al-Malik.

The Director-General of ICESCO appreciated the crucial role FAO is playing in supporting developing countries in transforming their agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

The Director-General of FAO emphasized the need to consolidate cooperation between FAO and ICESCO. In this regard, he agreed with the Director-General of ICESCO to start a technical discussion to renew the Memorandum of Understanding signed between FAO and ICESCO in 2011 and make it more responsive to the needs of member states.

Qu reiterated FAO’s readiness to further support ICESCO, building on their active and strategic collaboration and promoting women-empowerment, technology entrepreneurship, and harnessing the potential of science and digitalization.
