Read-out of the meeting between the FAO Director-General, and the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

Lisbon- The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a meeting at the Belém Palace in Lisbon with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal.

The Director-General provided an overview of the major developments in FAO, including the adoption of the Strategic Framework 2022-31, the new strategy on Climate change and the new strategy on Science and innovation.

The President commended the key role that FAO plays in supporting sustainable agriculture development and safeguarding food security in the world leading to the transformation of agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

Qu expressed his appreciation for the continued support of Portugal to FAO, especially when global food security faces increasing challenges due to the compound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and climate change.
