Buenos Aires – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, on the sidelines of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and listed several measures that have been implemented to build a new, modern and digital FAO. He cited the Strategic Framework 2022-31, the new FAO thematic strategies (Science and Innovation, Climate Change and Private Sector), the Hand-in-Hand Initiative, as well as the World Food Forum and its three pillars (Youth, Science and Innovation, and Investments).

The Prime Minister shared his experience in dealing with food security in the Caribbean and asked for FAO’s support as his country has assumed the pro-tempore presidency of CELAC in 2023. He stressed that food security and nutrition will continue to be high on the bloc’s agenda this year, as several countries have faced disruptions in their agrifood systems.

The parties also discussed updating the CELAC Plan for Food Security and Nutrition and the Eradication of Hunger 2025, which was elaborated in 2015.
