Readout of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with His Excellency Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met His Excellency Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, on 18 February, at a side event of the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union being held in the Ethiopian capital.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Director-General’s leadership and expressed appreciation for his commitment to achieving food security.

The Ethiopian Head of Government indicated that his country’s agrifood system’s priority focus is improving nutrition and connecting farmers with markets. For that, he requested the Organization’s support, including facilitating experience-sharing opportunities between African countries.

Qu lauded the Prime Minister for the nation’s achievement in wheat self-sufficiency and highlighted FAO’s readiness to provide related technical support in Ethiopia

The Director-General briefed the Prime Minister about FAO’s Strategic Framework, as well as the new thematic strategies and initiatives that the Organization has put in place under his leadership. He also reassured FAO’s support as the country strives for Better production, Better nutrition, a Better environment, and a Better life.

Qu invited the Prime Minister to the upcoming World Food Forum in Rome.
