Readout of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with His Excellency Cleopas Sipho Dlamini, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini

Mbabane- The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with His Excellency Cleopas Sipho Dlamini, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

His Excellency Jabulani Clement Mabuza, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied the Director-General to the meeting and informed the Prime Minister of the discussions held during the morning with other relevant Ministers.

The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister for his support and vision, and briefed him about FAO’s Strategic Framework, as well as the new strategies and initiatives that the Organization has put in place under his leadership. He reassured FAO’s support as the country strives for Better production, Better nutrition, a Better environment, and a Better life.

The Director-General shared with the Prime Minister the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative and the comparative advantage that Eswatini has to become an “organic food from organic land” producer.

The Prime Minister thanked the Director-General for his visit to the Kingdom of Eswatini and the support provided by the organization.

He reiterated the importance of the agricultural sector for the country and its economy. He appreciated the discussions held and said he was looking forward to the work planned in order to promote the country’s agrifood systems transformation, through improved varieties, processing and value creation.

The Director-General concluded the meeting by inviting the Prime Minster to the World Food Day and World Food Forum events in Rome.
